Video Surveillance System Monitoring

There are several ways in which the footage produced by a video surveillance system may be monitored.

Video surveillance footage can be monitored in several ways. The most familiar method is by having security staff monitor live footage on DVRs and display units that connect to cameras through coaxial cables (monochrome screens for analog systems; HD with color for modern ones). Newer video surveillance systems that use video analytics software may not require any human monitoring.

With today’s digital cameras, the feed can be accessed via one’s network. Network Video Recorders (NVR) are used to store recorded footage from IP cameras. Video encryption is used to ensure access by authorized personnel when viewed through a connected display unit, web browser, or mobile app. These systems also have the ability to detect movement and send notifications to authorized personnel.
