Stun Fencing or Non-Lethal Electrified Fence (NLEF)

A stun fence is a non-lethal electrified fence (NLEF) that provides an uncomfortable shock instead of a lethal one. This type of fencing offers both deterrence and protection. Thus it’s become widely preferred for specific perimeter security schemas where the deterrent effect must be maintained as well.

Non-lethal electrified fences or stun fences are used to prevent trespass by private and government sector bodies that include:

  • Commercial Facilities
  • Industrial Facilities
  • Airports
  • Prisons
  • Electrical Substations
  • Military Facilities
  • Government Facilities
  • Farms and Agriculture Facilities
  • Borders

Security electric fences are used to protect property and deter intruders. These types of fences consist of an energizer that sends pulses in the wires, which carry electricity for a shock effect. A notification protocol can be triggered if someone tampers with the fence or triggers it when they shouldn’t have access. This can include alarms, security lighting, security staff notifications, and more.

Electric fences are perimeter detection solutions that have the following benefits and advantages:

  • Physical barrier
  • Psychological deterrent
  • Cost-effective systems
  • Crucial for the response time
  • Integration with sirens, alarms, and lighting
  • Remote monitoring and control
  • Automated monitoring

Stun-Lethal Fence

A stun-lethal electric fence delivers a shock that is not fatal the first time it’s touched. Touched again, however, the intruder will receive a deadly jolt of electricity. Generally, stun-lethal electric fences consist of two fences. The first is a non-lethal electrified fence that energizes a secondary fence to an unsafe or lethal mode when activated.

Lethal Electric Fencing

Electric fences designed to carry potentially lethal currents can be used for anti-personnel purposes. During wartime, they have generally been employed for border protection, concentrations camps, and preventing defection or emigration.

Electric fences continue to be used similarly at some high-security prisons and specific other installations. Typically a nonelectric fence is constructed on either side of such an installation to prevent accidental interaction.

Components on Non-Lethal Electrified Fences

Non-Lethal Electrified Fences have the same or similar components as lethal electric fencing:

  • Fence energizer or electrifier
  • Conductor
  • Posts
  • Insulators
  • Earthing
  • Controller module
  • Lightning protection

What Senstar Offers

Senstar offers an alternative to stun/electrified fences.

Our fence-mounted cable-based sensors detect and locate any attempt to cut, climb or otherwise breakthrough a fence.
