Not Many Companies Are Doing What We Do

While most Ottawa high-tech companies in the 1990s were large, telecom-focused enterprises, Jeremy Weese was drawn to Senstar because of its unique perimeter intrusion detection security technologies and (at the time) the company’s smaller size.

Headshot of Jeremy WeeseWhat’s kept him at the company for 22 years are the interesting projects and technologies, with mergers and acquisitions expanding the company’s product line to include video management, intelligent video analytics, access control, and personal duress; the career advancement opportunities that have kept the job varied and allowed for greater influence on the company’s direction; and the ability to touch all elements of a product and be involved in marketing and sales.

“Senstar has some niche products which no one else in the security industry offers,” said Jeremy. “Not many companies are doing what we do.”

Jeremy joined Senstar in 1999 in a design engineering role after completing his computer engineering degree at the University of Ottawa. During his tenure, Jeremy has moved through progressive levels of responsibility within the research and development (R&D) team. Prior to being named Chief Technical Officer in March 2021, Jeremy served as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, and was previously Vice President of Engineering.

Research and development is one of Senstar’s strengths and Jeremy has been involved in all Senstar product developments in varying degrees during his time with the company. Highlights include the development of the Silver Network platform which underpins all Senstar sensor products, and the opportunity it provided to standardize Senstar’s product peripherals so that the development focus could stay on core functionality.

Jeremy’s technical foundation enables him to understand customer needs and have an appreciation for what it takes to develop and introduce a reliable, market-ready product.

“Understanding the complexities of the products provides the necessary perspective to optimize the operations for successful delivery,” he said.

With Senstar celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2021, it has products in the field that have been running continuously in critical applications for longer than most of its competitors have been in business. But it’s not just the company’s longevity that makes it the best choice for physical security products.

“Senstar develops a family of products that are designed from the ground up to work together as part of a larger solution,” said Jeremy. “Our engineers spend time in the field at customer sites to understand their challenges and usability requirements, and our products are developed and tested in a location that experiences a wide range of climatic conditions.”

Jeremy anticipates continued success for Senstar in the years ahead as the company solidifies its position as the premier technical solution provider in the physical security industry.

“Senstar is in a unique position with the continued convergence of systems as the only manufacturer with the breadth of technology that Senstar has,” said Jeremy. “The core competencies and vast experience in various facets of security are starting to pay dividends for the company.”
