Senstar Announces Extended Range Detection for FiberPatrol™-PR

Enhanced system more than doubles previous detection range capabilities and allows for more accurate intrusion locating

Ottawa, Canada – May 9, 2017 – Senstar, the world’s largest manufacturer of perimeter intrusion detection systems (PIDS), today announced that FiberPatrol-PR, its fiber optic fence-mounted sensor for perimeter applications, now provides up to 50 km (31 mi) of protection per processor, more than doubling the system’s previous detection range capability of 24 km (14.9 mi). The intrusion locating accuracy of the system has also improved to within 4 m (13 ft) from the previous 8 m (26 ft).

“This is the second time in just over a year we have implemented extended range capabilities for FiberPatrol-PR,” said Product Manager Stewart Dewar. “By enhancing the system, we are able to provide customers greater protection and more accurate locating with less infrastructure. This results in more economical deployments for long perimeter sites, including borders.”

FiberPatrol-PR uses proven fiber optic technology to detect and locate intrusions. The system has a reduced nuisance alarm rate because it can differentiate between disturbances caused by real intrusions and environmental disturbances such as wind and rain. FiberPatrol-PR can detect and accurately locate intrusions even when there are multiple simultaneous intrusions or in the presence of spatially-distributed environmental noise that would mask the detection capability of other long-range fiber optic sensors. As well, the system’s resilient design allows detection to continue right up to the point of a cut in the sensor cable. The system can also be deployed in a cut-immune configuration.

FiberPatrol-PR requires no powered or conductive items in the field, making the sensor completely immune to EMI and lightning and intrinsically safe in the presence of explosive atmospheres.

Senstar Introduces the Flare™ Real-Time Locating System

Patented RF technology helps to keep staff safe in high threat environments

Ottawa, Canada –  April 25, 2017 – Senstar today introduced the next generation of the Flare Real-Time Locating System which instantly identifies and locates personal duress alarms at the touch of a button. Designed for reliability in institutional and industrial environments, Flare uses patented, proven, cost-effective technology to help keep staff safe.

“The technology behind Flare has been in continuous use in high-threat environments for over 20 years,” said Product Manager Todd Brisebois. “Senstar has used this experience to design the architecture and feature set required for a mission critical real-time locating system while offering one of the industry’s lowest Total Cost of Ownership.”

In the event of danger, the user activates a Personal Protection Device (PPD) on his or her belt. The PPD emits an RF signal that is detected by a network of sensor units concealed throughout the facility. Flare immediately locates indoor emergency alarms to within 6 m (20 ft) and displays the location, status, and identity of the PPD on a map-based display in the control room. Pull-pin and man-down (tilt activated) options are also available, and the system can be optimized for outdoor use. Flare operates in protected frequency bands that use dedicated spectrum, avoiding the potential for interference.

Key features of the Flare Real-Time Locating System include low sensor unit density, scalable architecture, IP connectivity, and ruggedized components. Flare is also easy to install and maintain, and requires minimal user training.

Senstar Receives Lenel Factory Certification Under Lenel’s OpenAccess Alliance Program

Senstar’s Network Manager integrates with Lenel’s OnGuard® access control security system versions 7.1, 7.2, and 7.3

Ottawa, Canada –  April 4, 2017 – Senstar today announced that it has received Lenel factory certification as part of the Lenel OpenAccess Alliance Program (OAAP). Senstar’s Network Manager alarm reporting system now integrates with versions 7.1, 7.2, and 7.3 of the OnGuard® access control system.

“Senstar has completed required factory testing at Lenel to validate the functionality of its interfaces to OnGuard 7.1, 7.2, and 7.3,” said Zach Roth, OAAP Project Management, Lenel. “We look forward to Senstar’s continued involvement in the Lenel OpenAccess Alliance Program.”

Network Manager is a software gateway which allows communication with a wide array of Senstar sensors, including FlexZone®, FiberPatrol®, OmniTrax® and UltraWave. The interface provides two-way communications with the OnGuard system receiving alarm and status information from Senstar sensors and enabling the control of local lighting and audible alerts by managing device relays. Using the alarm information, the full range of the OnGuard system’s security responses can be initiated, including commanding camera actions and providing visual and audio alerts.

“Providing our customers with software integration to OnGuard reduces equipment costs by avoiding the need for relay output modules and corresponding alarm panels, and having the integration certified by Lenel eliminates the risk of software incompatibilities arising during site commissioning” said Senstar Product Manager Stewart Dewar.

Senstar has been part of the OAAP since 2013. Network Manager / OnGuard interfaces now cover versions 7.3, 7.2, 7.1, 7.0, 6.6, 6.5, and 6.4.500.

About Network Manager

Network Manager is a powerful IP-based alarm reporting system for Senstar’s sensors. Senstar’s perimeter intrusion detection systems (PIDS) have an integrated sensor networking capability that provides a two-way communication channel between sensors and the control room. Senstar Introduces New Version of FiberPatrol-ZR

Longer detection capability provides customers with more protection options

Ottawa, Canada – December 22, 2016 – Senstar, the world’s largest manufacturer of perimeter intrusion detection systems (PIDS), is today announcing a new version of FiberPatrol-ZR, its zone-reporting fiber optic fence-mounted intrusion detection system. The new version doubles the detection capabilities of the original system to 5 km (3.1 mi) per processor.

“This new version of FiberPatrol-ZR provides additional perimeter length options for customers looking to secure their sites with proven fiber optic sensor technology,” said Product Manager Stewart Dewar. “It combines the cost-effectiveness of a zone-reporting system with most of the performance capabilities and features of a more expensive long-range fiber optic system.”

FiberPatrol-ZR shares many features with Senstar’s FiberPatrol-PR system optimized for long perimeters, including dual sensing channels enabling a cut immune configuration. The system has a reduced nuisance alarm rate because it can differentiate between disturbances caused by real intrusions and environmental disturbances such as wind and rain. FiberPatrol-ZR can detect and accurately locate intrusions to the zone even when there are multiple simultaneous intrusions or in the presence of spatially-distributed environmental noise that would mask the detection capability of other long-range fiber optic sensors.

Compared to hardware-zone systems that require zone start/end modules and/or breakout boxes to define zone boundaries, FiberPatrol-ZR uses optical time-domain reflectometry to accurately determine the location of intrusions and then creates virtual zones in software. The result is a centralized sensor unit with only a continuous run of fiber optic cable on the fence, dramatically reducing installation cost and time.

Qognify Successfully Integrates Situator with Senstar’s FiberPatrol™-PR

PARAMUS, New Jersey, July 11, 2016Qognify, formerly NICE Security, today announced the successful integration of their leading PSIM and Situation Management solution, Situator, with Senstar’s fence-mounted fiber optic perimeter intrusion detection system, FiberPatrol-PR. The integration and joint solution was initiated on behalf of a major utility company in North America in order to enable them to maintain compliance with stringent NERC-CIP regulations and improve security and safety.

NERC CIP reliability standards were developed to ensure the physical security of critical assets that control or effect the reliability of bulk electric systems. Non-compliance can result in heavy fines; as high as $1 million per day, per violation. As per NERC, utility companies must respond to incidents within a certain time period upon an alert.

Fiber Patrol-PR is capable of identifying an intrusion point along a fence with high accuracy, providing up to 14.9 mi (24 km) of protection per processor. When an intrusion is detected, FiberPatrol-PR automatically creates alerts in Situator, which provides operators with situational awareness. Situator can then guide operators to the most effective and compliant response via pre-defined, automated and evolving incident management capabilities. Being able to identify a threat or a problem in real time and handle it effectively and efficiently is critical. Moreover, Situator provides detailed, accurate reporting that serves as proof of compliance for regulators.

Utility companies are faced with heightened security and safety threats, reduced budgets, and ever-increasing compliance pressures. “The Situator/FiberPatrol-PR solution effectively addresses these challenges with the ability to identify, notify and effectively respond in real time to ensure business continuity and compliance,” said Senstars Product Manager Stewart Dewar. “This solution benefits from the inherent reliability of FiberPatrol-PR’s advanced fiber optic technology, with its cut-immune capability.”
